Nigeria: Government Defends Fulani Herdsmen, says killings not Jihad or Genocide.

Abuja - The Federal Government of Nigeria has come to the defense of the Fulani Herdsmen and the killings being perpetrated by the Herdsmen by saying that the killings have no Ethnic or Religious motivation.

Audu Ogbeh and Lai Mohammed
The Federal Government made this known today May 17, 2018 through the Minister for Information Alhaji Lai Mohammed at the ongoing Farmers-Herdsmen Summit held in Abuja and organized by the Federal Government of Nigeria to find lasting solutions to the lingering killings by Herdsmen against Christian farming communities in Kaduna, Adamawa, Benue, Enugu, Edo, Ekiti, Plateau, and Ebonyi States. Other southern and Middle Belt States of Nigeria affected by the Killings and ransacking of Communities by the Herdsmen include Kogi and Nasarawa States.

The Minister for Information said the killings were not ethnically and religiously motivated but rather was a product of demography and climate change among others.
You will recall that during the visit of President Mohammadu Buhari to the United States of America, President Donald Trump had expressed his displeasure over the killing of Christians in Nigeria especially by the Fulani Herdsmen. A situation which the American President said he was making efforts to forestall although the Nigerian President Mohammadu Buhari came to the defense of the Herdsmen saying they were from Lybia and were trained by Late Libyan Leader Mamman Gaddafi.

The Farmers-Herdsmen Summit had in attendance the Minister for Information Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister for Interior General Dambazzu, the Minister for Agriculture Audu Ogbeh, Stakeholders from the Christian, Religious, Fulani and Farming Communities.

The question on the lips of those Nigerians who are victims of the killings and who see it as either ethnic cleansing or Jihad are:
  • Why are the killings by Fulani Herdsmen not taking place in Sokoto and Kebbi States which are the seat of Islam in Nigeria and the homeland of the Fulanis or are there no Farmers in those areas?

  • Why has the government of Mohammadu Buhari shown a cold feet in arresting these Killers and bringing them to justice?
  • Why is the government of Nigeria putting the blame on Gaddafi and Lybia claiming that the Killers are foreigners?

  • Why was the government of Mohammadu Buhari bent on allocating lands to the Fulani Herdsmen in the name of Grazing Reserve or Cattle Colony?
  • Why did it take the United States President Donald J Trump to convince Buhari that the killings are Jihad against the Nigerian Christians?
  • Why are the killings taking place in the Christian Communities of Southern and Middle Belt of Nigeria?
